Business Products - SFPs AND FIBRE INTERFACES

Many Netgear switches make use of industry-standard plug-in interfaces for connection to fibre. This allows support for various types and distances of fibre, simply by purchasing the correct interface. In addition to the very popular Small Form-factor Plug-in Gigabit Interfaces (SFPs) there are also GBICs and 10GB interfaces available for specific units.

Some Gigabit switches have dual-purpose interfaces where an SFP slot operates in parallel with one of the 10/100/1000 ports. In these cases only one of the ports is active at any time, and generally if an SFP Interface is plugged into the SFP slot it will take precedence over

the 10/100/1000 port, making it inoperable.

Older installed Multimode fibre is likely to be between 26 and 82 metres
