Why
didnt anyone think of it before?
Running voice over your LAN and WAN: sounds like a good idea, doesnt
it? For a long time, thats all it was. Just a good
idea. To many people, the potential problems seemed just too huge
to overcome; how could a data network offer the kind of call quality
and clarity that users demand?
Now, though, with the advent of new technologies, 3Com have developed
network telephony solutions that meet the needs of even the most
demanding users. The benefits in terms of cost, flexibility and
time should not be underestimated. Network telephony solutions from
3Com offer an opportunity that no business can afford to ignore.
3Com LAN Telephony
Until now, running data and voice meant running two separate networks.
Voice networks in particular were complex, requiring specialist
and costly management for even the smallest move,
addition or change. Every extra feature would add to the cost.
With
the emergence of faster, more reliable data networks, however, voice
over IP (VoIP) technology has become a viable, lower cost alternative
to the traditional PBX. The award-winning 3Com NBX Communications
Systems mean that you can have all the features of a traditional
corporate PBX, at a cost that is suitable even for smaller installations.
The NBX Communications Systems gives a simplicity of management
that could cut down significantly on the maintenance costs youre
currently paying. Just as important, its performance and call quality
mean that your users and your customers will never
notice the difference.
3Com
SIP Telephony
If
reducing long-distance phone charges and an increasing need for
employee mobility are issues that concern your organisation, Session
Initiation Protocol (SIP) solutions from 3Com will be a welcome
relief. By using IP telephony to stream digitised voice signals
over the Internet instead of using a traditional PSTN service, you
can make impressive cost savings while giving users a level of flexibility
that would, until now, have been impossible.
Telephone
users can stay in touch wherever they travel. Their phones
functionality and identity can be stored in a handheld device, such
as a Palm computer, and then simply beamed to any 3Com SIP phone.
The users calls will then be routed to them at their
new location.
Avoiding
long-distance telephone charges is not the only cost benefit of
a 3Com SIP solution. Maintenance costs are kept to a minimum by
simplified system management, whilst the inclusion of value-added
features such as unified messaging, mobility and call centre applications
plus virtual account provisioning give you capabilities far beyond
those of a traditional PSTN service.
