How to choose a UPS system

Deciding on a suitable small to mid-range UPS unit can be quite a confusing exercise, but the following information should help.

  1. First of all you need to decide what type of UPS you need.  The three types are Offline, Line-interactive and Online (click here for more details).

  2. Then you need to decide whether you need a stand-alone unit, or one that can be mounted in a 19" rack or cabinet.

  3. Finally, based on the power load of the equipment to be supported, and the length of time you want the UPS to run for in the event of a mains failure, you can choose a suitable unit from the appropriate series of UPSs.

To help you do this you can use the Emerson UPS configuration tool - click here.

Once you have decided on a particular unit, you can purchase it online from our Purchasing Catalogue - see the Purchasing links for the various ranges on the main Emerson UPS Zone page.
