Service Bypass Panels are used to connect a UPS to the mains supply and to the equipment load. They allow the UPS to be disconnected from the circuit without dropping power to the load, allowing the UPS to be removed or maintained. Bypass Panels are usually hard-wired to the mains supply, but can use IEC input leads in some cases. Other inputs and outputs are either hard-wired or IEC connections, depending on the model.
There are usually three switch settings; Normal (where the power routes via the UPS), Bypass (where the power routes directly to the load and the UPS is not powered) and Test (where power routes directly to the load, but is also supplied to the UPS for testing or to keep the batteries charged).
