What all those numbers in the description mean

UPS units are classified by their power rating.  So an APC Smart UPS 620 unit is rated at 620VA (or Volt/Amps).  However, most equipment that you want to power will give a loading in Watts.  For this reason, we have included the Watt rating in our Purchasing Catalogue.  You will see devices are described in the following manner:

APC Smart UPS 620(Reference #SU620INET)

SU620INET is the APC part number for this unit.  (Where to find the model number on an APC UPS unit.)  The recharge time (6 hours) is the amount of time it takes to recharge a completely depleted battery.

The half load time is the amount of run time that is possible if the load is half the maximum load for the unit.  (This is done to give some idea of run-time in an operational environment.)  So in this case, a load of 195 Watts (390/2) will run for 15.7 minutes before the battery has been depleted.

Most units include surge protection, and this is measured in the amount of energy that can be dealt with by the circuitry whilst maintaining power.  It is shown in Joules, e.g. 320 Joules.

You can find out the run times for specific UPS units under various loads using the APC Run-Time Tables button on the APCzone main page.

You can use APC's Configuration Aid to work out the best UPS for your requirement.  You enter details about your system and it will suggest several options that you can then review in the Purchasing Catalogue.  The APC Configuration Aid button is on the APCzone start page.
